This week on the blog we are bringing you a Supplier Spotlight | Getting Married in Austria post, featuring the incredibly talented Sandra Maureder from Stressfree Weddings by SandraM. We met the lovely Sandra at the Bridelux Symposium event in London last month, it was so interesting hearing about her ideas and how popular Austria has become as a Destination Wedding location. So enough of us and over to Sandra...
"Destination Wedding Austria… Stop dreaming, let your bespoke wedding happen!
With choosing Austria for your destination wedding you have already done the first step: nowhere else in the world unites elegance, nature and history as much as the beautiful backdrops of our cities, The Alps, our castles, our wineries and most importantly our hospitality.
Thinking of Mozart’s delicate sounds makes you wish you could live the magic of feeling like a princess in a fairy tale. Your wish will come true when you get married in one of our castles or palaces, at the shores of our pristine lakes or surrounded by fresh snow. Our mountains offer a picturesque scenery in summer and winter. Or you choose the special background image of colourful autumn foliage – your wedding pictures will stand out for sure!
Austrians live up to the motto ‘The customer is king!’, because we cherish your appreciation. This you will feel throughout your whole ‘Destination Wedding Austria’ experience. We will make it happen with a smile on our faces – no matter if you and your partner elope and want to experience an unforgettable day just the two of you or if you decide to throw the party of your life with hundreds of guests attending.
Please note that it depends on the type of registry you want to get married, as to what the next steps are. I give Vienna and Salzburg as our examples here since they are the most demanded locations for international couples to have a destination wedding.
If both of you have never resided in Austria and you wish to have a civil ceremony that is legally binding in the rest of the world you have to talk to the “tourist registry” in Vienna. They will then let you know what documents they need from you depending on your nationality. Important you can only do this 6 months in advance and mention a date you wish to have your ceremony on and a specific registry or location where you wish to have the ceremony at, but there is no guarantee you will get it. They will then allocate a date, time and location to you. You will have to send all the original documents, a copy of your passport and the signed agreement till 8 weeks before the ceremony at the latest. You will get your documents back on the day of your civil ceremony. Since the official language is German you will need a certified and legally approved translator.
In Salzburg you can apply for a wedding date online, but they require that you file all documents in person. A wedding planner can help with that, but you have to get permission for that in writing. The ceremony can also be conducted in English, hence if both partners can understand English no translator is needed.
