More and more couples are jetting off to far-flung locations in search of guaranteed sunshine – or even snow! While weddings abroad are always a gorgeous choice, you’ll need to approach your bridal look slightly different, particularly your hair and make-up. As experts when it comes to planning destination weddings, we’re here to offer you our top tips, dos and don’ts for couples who are saying, ‘I Do’ abroad.
If you’re getting wed in a hot climate, you need to consider how you wear your hair. It’s all about beating the humidity and keeping the frizz at bay. While beach waves may look gorgeous, the humid and often windswept weather may cause the curls to drop out early on in the day. If you want to avoid touch-ups, bobby pins become your best friend. Alternatively, an up-do or bridal braids are the easiest ways to look stylish without the hassle. Invest in a decent humidity-blocking hairspray to lock down any loose fly-aways. Your hair stylist will be able to advise, so make sure you book in a trial before you walk down the aisle.
When it comes to destination wedding make-up and skincare, less really is more! You will need to pay extra attention when creating a light base, so avoid heavy formula foundations and powders as they will leave your skin looking 'cakey' before sliding off in the hot weather. If you can get away with it, we recommend using a tinted moisturiser for a naturally dewy and flawless look. A sweeping of bronzer and highlighter is all you need for a healthy glow – the sunshine will do the rest. You’ll need a high-quality primer and fixing spray to finish off the look and keep it in place all day.
Our destination wedding make-up must-haves include SPF – pretty self-explanatory but it’s easy to forget to pack one! These days, you can get foundations and moisturisers with built-in SPF so there are no excuses. Make sure you’ve also purchased a waterproof mascara for the high temperatures and high emotions – you don’t want sweat and happy tears to leave you looking like a panda on your wedding day! Lastly, blotting papers are essential if you’re tying the knot in a sunnier setting and want to avoid any shine. We suggest popping them into an emergency bridal kit so you can quickly do any make-up touch-ups throughout the day.
Always book an experienced destination wedding make-up artist and ensure you have a trial ahead of the wedding. They will be able to advise on longevity products that will keep you looking and feeling incredible!
